We still haven't found what we're looking for...

School holiday films... For those of us with kids it is always the challenge of picking from the bunch of films on offer over the two weeks that gem of a film that entertains mum and dad as well as Master 10, Miss 8 and Miss 6. So far we are zip from two attempts...

Don't get me wrong! The fifth Ice Age film was ok, actually pretty funny in places, but it definitely was NOT the epic film of these July holidays. Equally Finding Dory was great effort by Disney and Pixar, heart warming and full of great moments, even getting me to root for Dory to win in the end despite me finding the blue and yellow fish the most annoying character of Finding Nemo.

There are still a few possibilities for film of the holidays, including The BFG which Master 10 has been talking up since his class just finished reading the books. The other main one on my radar is the lastest Ninja Turtles, technically not a family film nor a film competing for only the school holiday dollar, but we won tickets to see it for free and we are determined that it is going to happen.

What has really frustrated me is that the shorts we have seen during Ice Age and Finding Dory have been for family films that look exactly like that film of the holidays that we have been struggling to find. The Secret Life of Pets looks like a lot of crazy fun and that film about the Trolls with that crazy cool 80s Troll hair has so many stars in it that surely it would be impossible to steer it wrong.

I guess time will only tell how impressive these October holiday films will be... Til then I suppose my money is on The BFG. Let's hope that Dahl (the master of the nonsense novel), Spielberg (ever a child at heart) and Disney (the characters of my childhood) can combine to have created something which entertains, makes us laugh and brings us back for more. I need faith in the fact that the family film is strong and will last forever...
